Facebook Introduced Desktop Chat App Through Workplace

Facebook has introduced its official desktop chat apps for both Mac and PC. The apps are available through Facebooks collaboration software Workplace. This new App will allow users to collect conversations, sharing pictures and video, search text messages all through a dashboard.

The new dashboard app allows users to share screen like other apps which include Skype and WebEx. This app will allow user to message easily without relying on a browser. According to TechCrunch a Facebook spokesperson Venessa Chan said “This was one of the most widely requested features by customers, so we built it. The desktop app is still in beta and being tested by Workplace customers who are providing feedback that we’ll use to improve the product before a wider rollout.”

Facebook is currently charging $1-$3 per user for Workplace from companies while the service is free for non-profit organizations and educational institutes. This Workplace Chat App allows you to share your full-screen, or if you want to show a specific software running on your desktop. This will allow the user some level of privacy while sharing their screens. For example a user can only share web browser while hiding his email client.  The Workplace Chat App is still in beta can be downloaded from Facebook.

Supported operating systems include 64-bit Windows systems running Windows 7 and above as well as macOS 10.9 (Mavericks) and above. Earlier versions of macOS and Windows aren’t supported.
