This feature is definitely an aggressive move and will be frustrating for users who use Facebook in class or in a boring meeting. Facebook has confirmed that for auto play sounds the volume of the mobile should be turned on. Secondly the sounds will not auto play if the user is listening to music as this feature will not interrupt the music.

If you find the auto play video sound feature frustrating you can always disable it. The auto play video sounds feature can be disabled by following this guide:

For iOS Smartphones:

  1. Tap the menu button, which looks like three stacked horizontal bars
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Tap “Account Settings”
  4. Tap “Sounds”
  5. Switch of the button that says “Videos in News Feed Start With Sound”

For Android Smartphones:

  1. Tap the menu button
  2. Go to settings
  3. Switch of the button that says “Videos in News Feed Start With Sound”

Isn’t this simple. The good thing is that you still have the option to disable sound for Facebook videos. Facebook has already started rolling this feature and most probably it will be rolled out globally.
