What Did Wikileaks Vault 7 Revealed Smartphone Users Beware

According to recently leaks by Wikileaks Code-named Vault 7 CIA can allegedly hack smartphones, messaging apps, smart TVs and some other electronic devices for surveillance. The Vault 7 is a set of 8761 documents sourced from CIA’s Centre for Cyber Intelligence.

The document revealed that some of the hacking tools which included Malware, Viruses and Trojans have been compromised. This included over 100 million lines of code. These hacking tools are now being circulated in an unauthorized manner.

These programs were targeted to hack into iOS, Android, Windows operating system and messaging apps. These tools can also be used to convert smart TV’s into microphone. One such program called Weeping Angel had the ability to trigger a Fake Off mode on a smart TV. This would allow CIA to secretly record audio conversations by keeping the smart TV on while the assuming that the smart TV is off.

Vault 7 leak has alarmed the smart device manufacturers and users. With these hacking tools Infected phones can be controlled and forced to share user information like user’s geolocation, audio, messaging data and remotely activate camera and microphone without users knowledge.  “These techniques permit the CIA to bypass the encryption of WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, Wiebo, Confide and Cloackman by hacking the “smart” phones that they run on and collecting audio and message traffic before encryption is applied.” Source

Vault 7 leaks if true can become a very dangerous weapon even greater then a nuclear weapons. As these weapons will be very hard to retain and possibly very hard to retain. once this information is compromised it can quickly and easily be copied without any marginal costs.

In a statement on Wednesday, the CIA said it had “no comment on the authenticity of purported intelligence documents released by WikiLeaks or on the status of any investigation into the source of the documents”. “However, there are several critical points we would like to make,” said CIA spokesman Dean Boyd.
