Google Pixel and Nexus users can get updated firmware without waiting for OTA updates. Google has released its Android Security Bulletin which is a detailed document containing the up-to date information about the security vulnerabilities. Google has already started pushing security updates through OTA updates. Google has also updated firmware page for its Google Devices (i.e. Pixel and Nexus). Users can now download firmware with March Security Patches from Google Developers site.
Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 owners can directly download the updated firmware without waiting for OTA updates. There is a bad news for Nexus 6 users as this will be the final platform update and they will only get security patches in future until Google decides to end its support for Nexus 6 devices.
Here it is important to mention that user who have installed custom ROM or rooted devices will not be able to get the OTA updates. These users will have to manually download their device ROM and flash it to get the latest updated firmware.
