Xiaomi unveiled its Mi 5x on July 26, 2017 in India and it was first device to have MIUI 9. It is a mid range device with dual camera setup. On September 5, Xiaomi rebranded the device as Android One and launched Android One ‘Mi A1’ which is the first pure Android OS device by Xiaomi. The price for both Mi 5X and Mi A1 are almost same, this might have upset the Xioami Mi 5X owners.
Both the devices have same hardware but Mi A1 offers a pure Android experience and is powered by Google where as the Mi 5X has MIUI Android skin. Xiaomi A2 will be the first device to get updated to Android Oreo as it is a stock Android device, but thanks to a developer named heli0us Xiaomi Mi 5X owners can also enjoy the stock Android on Mi A1.
heli0us has published a ROM which can unofficially turn a Mi 5X device into Mi A1. Once this ROM is flashed to a Mi 5X device it will convert it to a Mi A1 device and it will also get August 1 security update. Although the device will not get OTA updates but the owner will be able to flash the new updates to these devices.
Although there have been no reports of any bug in this ROM but the owners are advised to take all the responsibility as they are dealing with unofficial software ports. It is advised that you should make a backup of all your data before flashing the new ROM. The ROM created by developer heli0us can be downloaded from here and follow simple instruction given by the developer heli0us to convert your Mi 5X into Mi A1.
